THE MUSIC ROOM

About the PROJECT

Before

This client had some great pieces to work with (love a leather chair!), but overall lot’s of gray & not a lot of personality for this fun family.

After

Can you even believe how joyful this room is now? No changes in paint, no construction, just good old-fashioned styling. And the light!!!

Both a formal living room & children’s piano lounge, this is a hard-working space in my client’s home. Working with the existing furniture and curtains, I brought in color and personality.

I worked with my client to come up with meaningful motifs we could bring into the space. Winter Park & Lake Powell—two beloved family playgrounds—made the list. This family also loves games & photos —spot the vintage backgammon & photo prints on the coffee table? I love to bring a family’s interests into a space. Home should feel like the place where you can most easily be yourself.

On the other main wall, I added an oversized print to balance smaller pieces on the piano picture ledge. Statement lighting brought it all together and made the space cozier and custom.

With the help of my specs, this client was able to carry out the purchasing & installation herself.

Didn’t it turn out amazing?

Below are the mood boards we started with. Some minor adjustments were made before I delivered the final design, but we stayed very close to the original.

Oversized art can be nerve-wracking if you haven’t taken the plunge before, but I’m so glad my client had faith. It’s a show-stopper! I also love how she asked to incorporate these resin composer busts in the room. Her children earned them from piano recitals—how darling is that? The details of this room came together so well. Enjoy a few shots of the final room up-close…

This room was a joy to design & style—such a good example of what art can do to a space!
